Pablo Picasso’s Personnages et Nu (Characters and Nude), 1960 centers around a female nude figure posing in the Studio. The model is centered in the composition while the other figures and the model’s chair fill the space around the studio. Picasso brings forth an animated spirit in such a simple pictorial frame. Our eye holds onto the outlined shape of the model in the center. She poses, arms raised next to a sitting chair while the others look on. The curves of the model and figures take on the qualities of a gestural sketch, and exemplify Picasso’s mastery of the etching medium.
Created in 1960, Personnages et Nu (Characters and Nude),1960 is an etching on arches laid paper, hand-signed ‘Picasso’ in pencil lower right and numbered from the edition of 50 lower left.
