Intimate in perspective and delicately rendered, this piece captures the artist innate sensitivity and unique understanding of form. Created on April 29, 1963, this work is numbered 16/200. Printed on a heavy wove Arches paper, this work is hand signed by Pablo Picasso (1881 - 1973) in pencil in the lower right. Picasso's signature and date also appear in the stone in the upper left. Displaying the artist's sense of affection and understanding of beauty, this work is constructed on the base composition of a contour line drawing. This elemental technique allows the viewer to focus upon both the graceful quality of line as well as the intimate scene portrayed. A sense of energy and vibrancy is added by the color and lines seen at the background of the image. As stated by Luis Carlos Rodrigo, "Daniel-Henry points out that "his 'subjects' are his loves. He never painted an object with which he didn't have an affectionate relationship - and certainly not only on aesthetic grounds."
