To do the same object over again, ten times, a hundred times and you never get bored seeing the same ladies in tutus or the cafe singers." Edgar Degas

Regarded as one of the founders of Impressionism, Degas is most well known for his paintings, sculptures, prints, and drawings of dancers. More than half of the works he created during his lifetime identify with the subject. Degas was also an accomplished draftsman, and particularly masterly in depicting movement, as can be seen in his renditions of dancers. In the 1870s Degas began a series of brothel scenes which broke with the conventions of academic and classical nudes. Degas produced a series of monotypes and from these, the famed art dealer and friend of the artist, Abroise Vollard, published this collection of rare etchings.
