Salvador Dalí was perhaps the most broadly known member of the Surrealist movement of the early twentieth century. Heavily influenced by Sigmund Freud, the avant-garde style explored consciousness and dream-like states through exaggerated landscapes and bizarre imagery. Salvador Dali's "Helen and the Trojan Horse" unveils a surreal portrayal of the Greek Goddess Helen standing in profile, adorned with an elaborate headdress and flowing cape, baring a single breast. Before a brick turret, she gazes at a vast landscape featuring a peculiar horse with a square cavity in its torso, embodying the iconic Trojan Horse. Black surreal figures populate the scene, while vibrant blue clouds and radiant sun rays in yellow and orange illuminate the dreamlike composition, inviting viewers into Dali's fantastical interpretation of classical mythology.
