Marc Chagall's "Dans le Village" is part of the "Color Amour" (or "Daphnis and Chloé") series, which is widely regarded for its vibrant color palette and dreamlike, poetic imagery.

In "Dans le Village" (translated as "In the Village"), Chagall combines themes of love, nostalgia, and rural life, evoking a whimsical and fantastical view of a village scene. The piece features vivid shades of blue with black outlines and incorporates characters and animals floating or suspended in the air, defying traditional notions of gravity and reality. The village setting, often inspired by Chagall's own memories of his childhood in a Russian village, is seen through an idealized lens, with simplified buildings and figures that appear almost dreamlike.

Chagall's authorization for the reproduction of these prints is demonstrated by the fact that the paper of each print is impressed with a water mark reading, “Ceci est une reproduction Marc Chagall” (“this is a reproduction Marc Chagall”), together with the artist’s signature. Without the inclusion of the water mark, you could be forgiven for believing that you were holding an original Chagall watercolor.
