After devoting more than twenty years to the perfection of the human form in bronze, Richard MacDonald focused on a series of sculptures based on his work with dancers from the Royal Ballet. The studies were designed to be the groundwork for the creation of a monumental Grand Coda. In “Chroma”, principal dancer and model, Steven McRae performs in the contemporary one-act ballet by award-winning Choreographer Wayne MacGregor. The power of the figure has the directional flow of a lightning bolt. The primal intensity of the movement is in direct contrast to the elegant simplicity of form.

In 2014 and 2015, Richard MacDonald focused intently on the minerals and pigments of his patina process - specifically on the color red. Shortly thereafter, the artist revealed his discoveries in a new exhibition entitled “Richard MacDonald: Red.” The exhibition, which highlights MacDonald's creative immersion into the hue, the emotion, and narrative of color, represents a profound new direction in the artist's work.
