In the spirit of sculpture by Botero, Maillol, and Matisse, Richard MacDonald’s Blanc Noir series focuses on form and the intrinsic natural beauty of the sculpture without the distraction of color and pattern. The pure play of light over white caresses the form in all its subtleties, while the black absorbs the detail, creating mysterious shadows and focusing the eye on the overall silhouette. The artist selects only a handful of sculptures from his overall body of work for the Blanc Noir series. He then creates the smallest editions in his repertoire so as to ensure the uniqueness of each piece and captivate the most astute collector.
