Always innovative, Chuck Close was unafraid to experiment with both subject and medium. He was best known for his large-scale photorealist portraits composed of tiny airbrush bursts, thumbprints, or looping multi-color brushstrokes. Close implemented a variety of mediums to repeatedly capture his personality and that of others in self-portraits and portraits. His subjects were usually his family and friends, including artists such as Richard Serra, Cindy Sherman, Alex Katz, Roy Lichtenstein, and Robert Rauschenberg. Close’s work forces the viewer to pay attention to not only the forms themselves, but also their very process of creation.
Created in 2009, this embossed relief print is hand-signed by Chuck Close in pencil in the lower margin and numbered from the edition of 30. The work is floated in a white-washed maple frame.
