PALM DESERT, January, 2023— Dawson Cole Fine Art is honored to present an exhibition of works by sculptor Richard MacDonald.  The exhibition will be on view from February 25 through March 15, 2023 at the Palm Desert Gallery on El Paseo. An opening reception to Meet the Artist will be held on Saturday, February 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. A special performance by “Anna” from Cirque du Soleil’s “O” Show in Las Vegas will take place in the gallery.

In his first show in three years, Richard MacDonald will be unveiling new works that move in a profound new direction.  The artist’s courageous divergence from the well-worn path is taking him further into uncharted artistic territory, and deeper into the realization of his own vision. New material choices, such as highly polished stainless steel, announce the “newness” as boldly as a trumpet blast. The highly reflective surface of one new work, entitled “Reflections”, brings the viewer into the sculpture.  This is a revolutionary idea in the realm of figurative art.  As we see our own reflections shift and change on the triangular surface, we are reminded of our many faceted personalities.  We relate to the sculpted figure, but the composition and material make us a part of the artwork. Richard MacDonald’s new works explore the idea that we are never one entity, one personality, one character.  We shift and change, we affect each other—like shimmering reflections in water, our being cannot be captured and held, our essential being is ever moving, like water spilling over a waterfall.
