Some works of art are exploratory; they ask questions, but offer no answers. Some are the distillation of a lifetime of experience, and the answers they give cannot easily be translated into words. Richard MacDonald’s mythological sculpture, “Orpheo”, is a triumphant work of beauty, depth, and passion. It answers questions that are as old as humanity itself. Great art always addresses the moments of human drama that are too complex for words. Richard MacDonald has sculpted the figures of Orpheus and Eurydices with a strength and power that renders words redundant. This work of art must be experienced. It is about timeless love, undying passion, and the will that makes man an unconquerable creature. Despite our frailty, because of our vulnerability, our love can be immortal.
