In “Pierre”, we once again see the theme of rehearsal or preparation. This everyday occurrence is lifted out of the ordinary into the extraordinary because the preparation is part of a whole; it is the path to the goal - the dream. In “Pierre” the fluid lines and diagonals counter one another resulting in a work with great movement and balance. The floating bar from which the model leans offers greater spatial awareness to the work as well. In the modeling of the sculpture, MacDonald has portrayed an accurate rendering of this ballet exercise, thus allowing for a true perception of the emotion and energy inherent in the work.
