“Ethereal Embrace” takes the awe-inspiring moves of Cirque du Soleil’s “Zumanity” as a point of departure, and presents us with a whole new concept in contemporary figurative sculpture. Each figure has the anatomical integrity only Richard MacDonald can describe, modeled from the clay with deftness of touch, immediacy, and excitement. In this work we see the male and female performers taking non-traditional positions that stimulate the imagination; the dynamic nature of their interdependence speaks to the changing nature of modern relationships.
